“Heteropessimism”

The term “gay” — in its old-fashioned positive sense — necessarily implies optimism, happiness, and a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Nobody a century ago would have thought to associate that word with homosexuality. More likely the contrary: a happily married man living in a cottage, with his wife baking an apple pie, children playing and cows grazing in the meadow, etc.

The religious term “heterodoxy” implies a different doctrine or heresy of sorts. A man who likes, loves, or is attracted to women does not normally need to indicate any special “preference” for their company — that part of the human condition is natural enough as it is and needs no special explanation.
