The Consumer Product Safety Commission is pressuring hospitals to hand over ER patient records, including injuries unrelated to consumer products.

A tiny federal agency tasked with protecting the public from injuries caused by lawn mowers and coffeemakers is demanding that some of the nation’s biggest health systems turn over detailed, personally identifiable medical records of all patients who seek help at their emergency rooms.

Lawn mowers and coffee makers but not guns? I've never yet heard of consumers able to walk and talk, eat and drink, dress themselves and keep their balance being adjudicated as mentally defective or incompetent to mow their lawns or make coffee.

But guns as consumer products are a totally different story. People who are fully sane, of sound minds and mentally competent to manage their own money, operate motor vehicles, conclude real estate transactions and for all other purposes, are deemed to be mentally defective and incompetent to possess firearms, on the basis of fallacious or highly exaggerated hospital records.

But the clincher is that these records exist, accurate or not, and are always used in court with full force of law to deprive former patients of their civil rights for the rest of their lives whether the federal government has any official access to them or not.
