“Men of the cloth” v. “husband material”
It's not always clear who these men are or what their motives are, but they sure do wear nice clothes!
So that's the “man of the cloth” who decides whether or not another man is “husband material” for some woman or another.
I suppose in many cases a certain man is after a manner of speaking starting to wear a tuxedo for some woman and he is getting to be fitted and measured professionally.

Real funny though, that woman sitting neatly in her place by the sewing machine cutting and stitching “husband material.”
I wouldn't be the judge of it, but that's an odd phrase, if you see or hear of it, you know right away that's not what it is. Some things are never said or meant in a positive sense. If they're looking for “husband material,” then they are probably not “wife material” themselves and there’s only so much of that business that can be tolerated.
