Loony female doctors

And a sharp interviewer …

Had an interview on Monday (for a post bacc/bridge program at a medical school) where I talked about pain management in women’s health (my app is very much OBGYN dominated). ¶After I spoke, the older male interviewer (was a professor at the school) chuckled and his only response was , “men experience pain too, ya know. it’s a problem for everyone. ” ¶I was completely thrown off guard with this remark. I understand pain management is a universal problem in all populations, but it felt like a microaggression and misogynistic.

There’s a hospital hiring manager talking about male patients in extreme pain versus an emotionally hypersensitive extreme feminist medical student who is interested in treating female patients exclusively and somehow believes that men and boys are like insects or spiders and virtually incapable of feeling any emotional or physical pain at all.

Where are you applying for work as a female female-only doctor fresh out of medical school?

The hospital already has a burgeoning OB/GYN department — and obviously many older males have serious medical and pain management issues, for which they need medical care. We’re not talking about young healthy men asking permission for sex at the hospital, are we? What sort of establishment is that? Or should it be?

I have not notified anyone of the comment. It was a 1:1 with one of the school’s professors. I agree, I’m not sure if he was playing devil’s advocate or if this was a “joke” as he laughed afterwards and just moved onto the next topic.

We could fill up every women’s prison in the country with one-on-one female job applicants to male interviewers. Were you wired for the interview with a lapel microphone or secret listening device? Like an undercover DEA agent meeting a drug dealer? I grew up in a gangster town of men (including cops) who wanted to “take me out” in the woods Mafia style, while most of the women I knew were mob wives, gangster molls and gun sluts who just wanted me dead or in prison, while they oh-so-politely feigned friendship with me.
