To protect the legal rights of illegals
Several states are passing laws to protect illegal immigrant workers and/or punish employers who either fail to hire them or fail to assist them to evade ICE enforcement actions.

Washington Attorney General Nick Brown has teamed up with Sen. Rebecca Saldaña (D-Seattle) and Rep. Lillian Ortiz-Self (D-Mukilteo) to propose the Immigrant Worker Protection Act. The proposed legislation (HB 2105, SB 5852) would:

Immigrant and Employee Rights Section

This federal law prohibits: 1) citizenship status discrimination in hiring, firing, or recruitment or referral for a fee, 2) national origin discrimination in hiring, firing, or recruitment or referral for a fee, 3) unfair documentary practices during the employment eligibility verification process (generally, Form I-9 and E-Verify), and 4) retaliation or intimidation.
U.S. citizens are apparently not entitled to such protections from discrimination by employers who preferentially hire illegal aliens.
