The fund serves about 1.3 million children and pays roughly $9,000 per child a year. ¶The draft would open "a new category of care, parent-based child care," under which "one married parent" could "receive C.C.D.F. assistance to care for their own child, while a spouse works at least 35 hours per week," according to the document the Times reviewed. ¶Unmarried couples would not qualify. Single parents who are not working remain ineligible, as they are now. ¶Families must earn below 85% of their state's median income, though some states set the bar at 60%.
Pimp daddy at the welfare office if such a large fraction of working men aren't making enough money to support their kids and their wives need a special allowance from the government. Who's the judge of manly earning potential and adequate income for alimony and child support here?
