Of course we need assistants with access to top secret information etc. who will never leave us in the Oval Office.

Espionage is the risk. These people don't generally have extramarital affairs unless choose to flaunt such relationships in our faces.

A fake or affected infatuation with “The President” or “Governor” or other head of state or obviously unavailable male is sometimes code speech or a signal that a woman is queer.

Maybe he is the only man that matters to her, and working as an office assistant is as close as she wants to get to him. She has other friends. A little bit too much the fashionable sort to be as lonely or shy as she lets on.
