A heathen affair entirely
A "conclave" or "convocation" is typically a witches' coven or gathering of wizards at an appointed time to perform witchcraft.
Apparently the Catholics openly consider themselves heathens and bastards without an earthly or heavenly Father until they have elected a new pope by such and such practice of wizardry and witchcraft, burning ballots and sending colored smoke up a special chimney etc.
