The "non-Hispanic white" trope
A fictitious category on government forms
None of Western Europe and virtually no one of Western European heritage can claim to be non-Hispanic, since the Spanish Conquistadores have intermingled and intermarried with Swedish Vikings, Gauls, Franks, Goths, Visigoths, Jews, etc. since ancient times.
The ancient Roman Empire is the origin of all Western civilization, and no one who has any part in such civilization can really outright "deny" Latin or Latino heritage or ethnicity, Spain and Portugal being the Western part of that.
For example, many Spaniards and Jews settled Oslo, Norway centuries ago, and some moved out in rural areas to raise sheep in the Norwegian fjells. It would be disingenuous of modern Norwegians to claim they are non-Hispanic. Whether people speak English or Norwegian or Spanish or whatever language and whether or not they "choose" to identify with or acknowledge Hispanic or Latino background, that does not have any particular relevance beyond the legal fiction of government forms and employment statistics.
Whatever happened to the official categories for "non-Irish whites" and "no true Scotsmen" on official government forms? If we're really forced to play dumbass politics with critical race theory and DEI all the time.
