Is getting pregnant 'embarrassing' or what does the word mean literally?

Obnoxiously gendered language not in congruence with ancient and long-standing grammar

embarazado

Grammar is ruthless sometimes. Pronouns like "yo" and "tu" are always grammatically masculine, and they do not have feminine forms even when they refer to female participants in a conversation. If a grammatically feminine complement is used in disagreement with one of these pronouns, then it has to interpreted — somewhat pejoratively in many cases — as a substantive noun in its own right rather than an adjective.

In Shakespeare's time there was the secret or hidden fraternal grammatical concept of "actors" or "agents" in Romance languages who were always masculine in the first and second persons regardless of actual gender. There was a hidden grammatical "brother" to speak or listen on behalf of a woman or girl.

Some modern women feel this is very insulting and patronizing, and many historical and literary books and grammars in those languages have been secretly ripped apart and reverse-corrected in favor of critical gender theory. A related and very common "hash-me-too" error is that of introducing "women" in the third person, and then subsequently referring to them in the first person plural. Male writers as a general rule avoid obnoxious schoolmarm "we" language, even when referring to themselves or all men or men in general as a group.
