Hegseth isn't being unreasonable
Public executions versus black ops and covered-up killings
This is a similar strategy to that of North Korea, where there is, supposedly, strict accountability to family and next of kin on the part of government and military officials. Chinese-style “disappearances” are much frowned upon in North Korea.

The U.S. Armed Forces is where we inevitably have to kill in order to save the lives of our loved ones, our fellow countrymen and compatriots.
Our goals and objectives even in the military, obviously are to be achieved as peaceably as possible and with as few killings as possible. The Pagans say live and let live, but I will kill all my enemies — and essentially the same in the Christian Bible.
[Romans 12] 17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. 18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. 20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. 21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
Let's be honest. The Bible does not suggest we allow evil to go unavenged. The giving of place unto wrath is where we join the real battle of good versus evil, with a good strategy of personal sacrifice for total victory and do not take or assume anything personally.
