I remain skeptical of stories of the ancients hauling heavy stones for hundreds of miles when similar usable stone is to be found in the immediate vicinity.

The ancients did not remove landmarks either. It is possible that modern researchers are not knowledgeable about local geology, and if they were they would be employed in the prospecting and mining business.

As if one were to discover deposits of precious metals, and then proceed to write an academic paper on the subject rather than selling or trading the said precious metals for profit.

So there are gold mines in North Wales, but these researchers are claiming that the Stonehenge rocks came from Scotland and they pretend total ignorance about the chemical composition of local gold deposits while looking at shale and sandstone.
