Unfortunately it really is the FBI's job to investigate criminal cases they are not exactly ‘welcome’ to investigate

My sympathy is somewhat limited.
As if a small town sheriff or nightclub bouncer has the power and authority to stall a murder investigation at the FBI.
The bullies need to back off and the shy dudes need to get right up there and step up to the plate.
