Tipster charged with killing man who vanished over 30 years ago after giving anonymous tip to police
A Michigan man has been arrested and charged with murder in Alaska.

On Jan. 22, 2025, troopers received an anonymous tip from someone they later determined to be Popps, who said he murdered a person in the Fairbanks area in 1993. ¶The state police agency said troopers found human remains inside a barrel down an embankment near mile 47 of the Steese Highway. ¶The medical examiner later identified the remains as Dearth. ¶Dearth was last seen on Nov. 22, 1993. A Fairbanks grand jury indicted Popps for Dearth’s murder last month.
The right not to be compelled to be a witness against oneself is not limited to the right to remain silent. Such statements and supposed confessions are inadmissible in court. There's a grand jury in Alaska but it isn't the one they picked.
