"Misgendering" is an extremely foul word that implies an unnatural carnal intercourse, not a misuse of pronouns. It is even more unsettling to learn that someone effectively cast in the role of a male prostitute is reported in the press as "very cooperative" in that context.
Police officers are always going to ask around in the course of any investigation, but they're not always going to like our answers, facts versus opinions and other observations. Outside of an arrest warrant or a formal subpoena with immunity to self-incrimination, police officers and government officials have no call to express any opinions whatsoever about whether or not we are "cooperative" with them as bystanders or acquaintances.
It is not our job as bystanders or citizens to any tragic incident to "cooperate" with police officers or "help" them in any particular regard. They're armed and we're not, after all, or if they learn we are armed then they are actively seeking to disarm us. It is our job to step aside, remain silent unless called to court as a witness without woodshedding or tampering, and do nothing to interfere with or obstruct their official investigation.

Again, if he isn't charged with resisting arrest, then he is in fact cooperating legally and it's his right to remain silent as to any criminal charges.
