Bears as apex predators?
No. Not really. That is an inaccurate portrayal.
Bears have huge powerful paws with claws and incredibly large strong jaws and teeth.
Bears could be apex predators merely on the basis of their size, strength and stamina, and sometimes they do chase and attack big game animals that infringe on their territory, but they are simply not big meat eaters, to clear up any scientific misperceptions.
Except for fish and insects, bears are mostly vegetarians, and actually rather picky eaters at that. They use their enormous claws and teeth to rip apart rotting logs to find grubs and insects to eat. Bears will chase deer and moose out of their territory and sometimes attack, but they generally do not actively hunt or prey on cervids or other ruminants or consume their flesh for food. That is a exaggeration by easily frightened overly impressionable city-living scientists who named the bear Ursus arctos horribilis.
Sadly, with a Mormon attorney general in office, brown bears are actively being exterminated from the entire State of Alaska by gun-grabbing Mormon religious zealots who hold office in the state fish and game department.
