There are too many sex offenders, “kept women” and mental hospitals where pimps and small-town church-vice community leaders lock up and torture outsiders who don't follow all their unwritten nightclub rules and unspoken codes of respect to the last jot and tittle.
The social rules in certain settings are made by certain men who desire casual sex with women and are willing to pay for it on a one-off basis. Other men are assumed gay and brushed off rudely. Nor do I believe that gay men are really “gay” except in a general vague sense of partying and living up the single men’s lifestyle. I always assume that they have girlfriends with whom they are intimate but have not introduced them to their families and communities.
Swedish women are «gift» or “given” away as by their fathers in the aisle at church, whereas English women are “taken” directly as by force. And some deadly poison is generally involved in the Swedish case, with the skull and crossbones representing that graveyard of prostitutes. Very proper and old-fashioned when they want to be, with full access to all the women’s rights and privileges in modern courts, of course, but that is not saying much, because the civil courts haven't really ever changed much and nothing ever happens in court except by consent of certain highly esteemed gentlemen of the district who are much too honorable to be pimps.
